As the sun sets on the shores of the Salish Sea for the last time in 2013, we wanted to take a moment to say THANK YOU for all the fun, connections, laughter, hugs, high-fives, brainstorming, awe moments, and even the tears we've shared with you over the last twelve months.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

We have indeed received a most unexpected gift...the arrival of a BRAND NEW BOOK from beloved author and artist Charles van Sandwyk!

Those who know Charles' work cherish these artistic heirlooms. The images, calligraphy and words all come from his old world heart. We've only received ten copies, so don't wait too long!

"The untold tale of Bartholomew the Green - cousin to our beloved Father Christmas - who left the comforts of Antarctica to help restore an old-fashioned Christmas to a wayward and needy world.

An Unexpected Gift - witnessed here and transcribed by their great, great, great, great nephew Nicholas the 6th; then translated by Charles van Sandwyk."

One of our favourite sounds in the Market is the giggling that happens in the  corner as people enjoy "A Bit of Cheek" cards by artist Robin Millan...

Release your natural radiance!

 For the Foodie on Your
Christmas List!

"The Book of Kale"— one of the most nutrient-dense greens in existence has been growing for thousands of years without any fuss. Yet, despite the fact that kale is lauded as a miracle food, and most people know that they should be eating it, many don’t know how to make it taste good.

Author and kale-evangelist Sharon Hanna provides more than eighty simple but superb recipes for breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks. YUM!

Mr. Rabbit's Christmas Wish, as translated for humans by Charles van Sandwyk.

“Mr. Rabbit thought up a few Christmas wishes, as he sat with his pipe after washing the dishes.”

"And a fine Christmas hat
of brown twig
and a snow berry
Keeps the spirit
of the little ones
lively and merry."

And so begins this wonderful story, as translated for humans by Charles van Sandwyk.

In her studio, artist Cathi Jefferson is surrounded by the thing that most inspires her; the sacred trees of the west coast rainforest that she refers to as “the lungs of our planet.” Her passion for nature is expressed through her pottery as she “feels a deep connection to the fathomless energy and beauty in nature.

Cathi has taught the art of clay at Emily Carr College of Art and Industrial Design,
the University of Victoria, and has been invited to demonstrate
all over North America, UK and Korea.

We're rather thrilled (okay, we're jumping up and down, doing the happy dance)
to welcome Cathi to the Salish Sea Market!
Bury an acorn in the ground and it becomes a beautiful oak tree.

Bury love notes or jewellery inside these magical acorn ornaments and it becomes a beautiful moment with someone you love!

Wood-turned acorns created by artist Jim Whyte.

It's a definite sign of snow. (see what we did there?)

A warm welcome to the first snowfall of the year on the shores of the Salish Sea!

Giving handcrafted gifts this holiday season...
valuable to both heart and budget.

'Tis the season...bring on the BLING!

Want to give that little black dress some holiday oomph for your Christmas party?

Add a pair of sparkly, festive baubles, in a whole-buncha-different colours, created by Alkara Designs! You'll have a party dangling from each ear!

We see it all the time.

They walk through the Market door, spot the Douglas J Fisher wood sculptures on the wall and then spend the next ten minutes looking up at them thinking, "I'd sure love to own one!"

Well...did you know Doug makes smaller pieces too?

Come in and have a look, this could be the PERFECT,
affordable surprise to put under the tree this year!
