A snail's pace...

is SOOOOO not what it has been in the Market today! Whew!

In fact, it's been so busy even these wonderful snails created by Kevin from Discovery Metal Creations on Quadra Island move quickly.

We just love indoor, outdoor art....oh, the options!!!
“The sea is everything. It covers seven-tenths of the terrestrial globe. Its breath is pure and life-giving. It is an immense desert place where man is never lonely, for he senses the weaving of Creation on every hand. For the sea is itself nothing but love and emotion."
~ Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea

Speaking of love and emotion...can you imagine the love and emotion that artist Ed Oldfield needed to muster up to create this work of pure art? Even each barnacle was painstakingly created by his hands. (You should see the AMAZING custom piece he just created for a VERY happy local couple...awe-inspiring!!)

A very lucky local husband will soon be the recipient of one of Bill Cave's instrument lamps!

As a celebrated local musician, now artist, Bill's passion for filling the air with fabulous music is a source of light (groan...sorry we couldn't help it - we were compelled to pun) for his re-purposed lamps.

How about you? Do you have an old instrument in the closet/attic/basement that you'd like Bill to re-purpose? It'll bring that beloved instrument back into your life along with some wonderful memories!

These colourful little fellas started out their lives as something completely different before they were up-cycled by Kastawayz Metal Art into the
CRABULOUS crustaceans you see here!

We love the ability to enjoy art both inside and out!

Crossed Heart Forge, Kastawayz Metal Art

And then, a worn and weathered forest appeared, giving the ravens a magical backdrop to tell us the artful stories from the shores of the Salish Sea...

We can not begin to count how many times a day we hear,

"I wish I was creative like these artists" from folks who are visiting us in the Market.

The response we gently offer when we hear this is, "It takes a creative heart and mind to appreciate art when you see it - so in fact you are creative.

And while we're on the subject...creativity exists in all parts of our lives - from how we parent, to how we serve and communicate, to how we choose to spend each day." So...go do it, and let your soul grow in the process!

This week we're talking about boards...oh, the boards!

Artist and popular food blogger Ann Thibeault, along with her husband Moe, are the creators of west coast Maple Cutting Boards and Knife Racks.

Handcrafted in Cowichan Bay from reclaimed Vancouver Island Big Leaf Maple, each one-of-a-kind board is an absolute work of art. Many of the boards are created to maintain their natural "live edge" profile, quilting, as well as bird’s eye figure, giving each one its own unique character and personality.

Their beauty and west coast charm make us want to use the boards just for serving and entertaining, however Ann and Moe are the first to encourage us to use them for cutting too!

There's stained glass...and then there's stained glass - and artist Jan Meads is a master at it.

Jan has a special intuition when it comes to the west coast, and it's evident in every one of her pieces. She has a sixth sense when it comes to choosing glass - glass with movement for the water, texture for the seaweed.

While this unique perspective of this Orca Whale really floats our boat, you may have another vision in mind.

We can coordinate custom creations between you and Jan...let us know how we can help.

Wishing you a 2013 filled with
colourful,

artful living...

and while you're at it - a little colouring outside the lines never hurts! ;)
