The
farmer planted the baby oak more than ¾ of a century ago on a farm just
north Courtenay.
It’s grown strong and proud for more than seven
decades, until this last spring when a big storm hit the shores of the
Salish Sea, bringing the mighty oak to the ground.
It sounds like a sad
story unfolding, until you see the next chapter in the life of this
grand old oak, thanks to artist James Whyte. He has ensured that its
legacy lives on in these incredible “live” edge bowls - the kind of
treasures that heirlooms are made of.
