Ahhhh,
the richness and beauty of glass.
She starts with a slender rod of Italian glass, and transforms it into a bead over an open flame. The final stage is when the bead hits the hot kiln, and then is slowly cooled over a three-day period. This process is called "annealing" - the slow cooling of the glass relieves internal stresses after it was formed, making the glass much stronger.
That's the extent of our limited knowledge...what we do know for sure is that they're incredibly beautiful, the picture just doesn't do it justice.
